Saturday, August 26, 2006
ST. JOSEPH, MO- The Blacksnakes (23-24, 49-46) wrapped up their inaugural campaign with a 5-0 shutout victory over Fort Worth Cats (32-15, 56-39). After a couple delays moved back the start time and turned a doubleheader into a single game to end the year, the ‘Snakes took the lead early and coasted to their sixth shutout victory.
Jimmy Mojica delivered a two-out single in the second to score a run, with a second scoring when the ball was bobbled in left-field for a 2-0 lead. Shingo Mitsumori would make it hold up but was given added support by Wil Quintana.
In the seventh, Quintana launched a three-run bomb to left field for his 21st home run of the year. It was a fitting cap to the slugger’s season, finishing atop the AA in home runs.
Shingo Mitsumori (4-5) picked up the suspended game and logged 6 1/3 shutout innings and three relievers followed to complete the four-hitter.
The win gives the first-year franchise 49 wins to conclude the season.
The Blacksnakes thank all their fans, sponsors and host families for supporting the team through it’s first season, and looks forward to an even stronger second season in 2007. Keep updated on all the Blacksnakes happenings during the off-season at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
