The Fort Worth Cats are the 2006 American Association Champions. The Cats take the series 3-2 with a 2-1 victory over the St. Paul Saints in game five. Fort Worth starting pitcher Joel Kirsten notched the win going 7 1/3 innings allowing one earned run on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Charlie Ruud took the loss for St. Paul pitching seven solid innings giving up two runs, both earned, on six hits with four strikeouts. St. Paul would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks to LF Derrick White’s solo home run, his second of the postseason. The Cats came right back in the fifth inning to tie it at 1-1 on a home run by 1B Shawn Williams. Fort Worth took the lead for good in the sixth inning on a RBI double by series MVP Marc Mirizzi, which scored 3B Terence Green. Fort Worth reliever Jeff Montani pitched the last 1 2/3 innings allowing only a hit with a strikeout to pickup the save.
