Second home opener set for May 10, 2007
St. Joseph, MO – There may be a bit of a chill in the air but the St. Joe Blacksnakes are already thinking about the 2007 baseball season. The Snakes today announced their 96-game schedule for their 2nd season as a franchise– and second in the American Association.
As in last year, the team will again play a 96-game schedule. The Blacksnakes kick off the season with last year’s second half wild-card winner, St. Paul Saints. The rest of May is split between all Northern Division rivals. The Snakes May home schedule will see the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Sioux City X’s visit Phil Welch.
The 48-game home schedule includes 2 series with Northern Division rivals St. Paul Saints and Sioux City X’s. The Blacksnakes invite last season’s first and second half winner Lincoln Saltdogs for three series. And the Sioux Falls Canaries will visit Phil Welch Stadium for four series throughout the 2007 season. Southern Division rivals Coastal Bend, Fort Worth, El Paso, and Shreveport visit St. Joseph only once.
“We’re very excited to start our 2nd season,” said Chris Carminucci, Field Manager/Director of Baseball Operations. “Getting the schedule is the first step. It’s onward and upward from there.”
Weekend nights drew the most prominence. There are nine Friday games and Saturday games scheduled. The balanced slate produced a total of ten homestands – none longer than nine games. The first half of the season ends in St. Joseph, July 2. The regular season wraps up at Fort Worth, August 25.
Starting times for regular season games (as well as a preseason schedule) will be announced at a later date.
