Snakes' SS Mojica Proving Valuable To Brewers
Friday, April 20, 2007
St. Joseph- Jimmy Mojica, the Blacksnakes Shortstop in 06', is currently playing Shortstop and Third Base for the West Virginia Power, the Low A Affiliate for the Milwaukee Brewers. Last year Jimmy stunned the American Association by starting the season as a utility player, eventually landing the everyday job at Shortstop. He proceeded to hit .299 earning him the Rookie of the Year Award. The 23 year old Puerto Rican native played two years at Kansas City Community College, before earning a spot on the Blacksnakes roster. "It is almost unheard of for a kid to play two years of junior college ball, and become a starting Shortstop in the American Association," said Field Manager Chris Carminucci. The skipper went on to say, "It was very rewarding for the Blacksnakes Organization to sign a young kid like Jimmy, and see him succeed in a league equivalent to Double A."
The Milwaukee Brewers expressed an interest in Jimmy this off-season. After making it through Spring Training, the Brewers placed him in the South Atlantic League. He is currently batting .387 and has belted 2 homeruns, which leads the team in both categories.
