Blacksnakes Spring Training to Begin April 30

St. Joseph- The grass at Phil Welch Stadium is a little greener now that the new Blacksnakes team has shown up. Their Spring Training begins this Sunday, April 30. "It's going to be a tough Spring Training. We've got some guys battling for some jobs out here. And I can't wait to put 22 guys on our field to represent St. Joe," stated the Blacksnakes new Field Manager, "Dirty" Al Gallagher. Friday, May 4 the Snakes travel to Kansas City to play the T-Bones in the first of a two game set, with the final game being played at Phil Welch Saturday, May 5. Twenty-seven guys are competing for twenty-two jobs, and they only have ten days to prove theri mettle before opening day on May 10.
Returning to the Snakes from last year's team are Andrew Edwards, Jesen Merle, Vincent DeChristofaro, and fan favorite Jake Whitesides. Jake was picked up by the Cubs towards the end of last season and sent to the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League. Upon his release, he re-signed with his hometown team of St. Joseph. "I am more than happy to come back to St. Joseph. We had a great bunch of guys last year, and I look forward to being a part of a great team this year," stated the slugger. Jake hit .299, 13 triples,13 doubles, 6 homeruns and drove in 59 RBI, before the Cubs signed him.
