Nussbeck Named League Pitcher of the Week
Monday, June 12, 2006
St. Joseph, MO—Earlier today the hot Blacksnakes were rewarded with their first award from the American Association league office.
Mark Nussbeck was selected as the Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 5-11 by Sportsticker, the American Association’s official statistician. The Kansas City, MO native was outstanding in his one start during the week.
The 32-year old beat the Sioux Falls Canaries, 5-2, on June 8 with seven great innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and a pair of unearned runs while striking out eight without a walk. It was Nussbeck’s second start since a two-week stint on the disabled list.
Nussbeck is 2-1 and has not allowed an earned run in his last 17 2/3 innings over his past three starts. He leads the league with a 0.78 ERA.
“His last 2 outings have been dominating,” said Manager Chris Carminucci. “After not feeling great in the beginning of the year, and not having Spring Training it is great to see him healthy and dominating.”
“This award puts him one step closer to the big leagues which is where he should be.”
Nussbeck was a 29th round draft pick by St. Louis in 1996 and has spent time with the Baltimore Orioles organization and with Camden, of the independent Atlantic League.
Lincoln Saltdogs’ second baseman Josh Patton was named Batter of the Week.
